Groups
What is a group
A group is an encrypted conversation thread within your organisation. All messages in a group are end-to-end encrypted. Groups are useful for sub-teams, projects, or topics where a subset of your members need to collaborate.
Creating a group
Click Create Group in the portal. Enter a group name (required). You can add members at creation time, or leave the members field empty and add them later. Click Create.
Adding and removing members
Click on a group name to view its members. Click Add Member to include existing organisation members in the group. Click Remove next to a member to remove them from the group.
Only members who are active (approved devices) can be added to a group. Removing a member from a group does not revoke their organisation access; they simply cannot see new messages posted to that group after removal.
Who can send in a group
Any member of the group can send messages and files in that group thread.
Groups vs broadcasts
- Groups are ongoing conversation threads for sub-teams. All group members can send and receive messages within that thread.
- Broadcasts are one-way announcements sent by an organisation administrator to all approved members simultaneously. Members cannot reply to a broadcast.
Choose a group for collaboration and discussion; use a broadcast for announcements to the entire organisation.
Deleting a group
Click the menu icon (three dots) next to a group name and select Delete Group. Existing messages remain on the devices of members who received them, but no new messages can be sent in that group after deletion.
